Consider The Amount Of Natural Light

When picking a room in your house to be considered for your relaxation space, one of the main things you should be concerned with is the amount of natural light that’s able to come into the space. If you don’t have enough light in the room or you’re forced to use a lot of artificial light, you may not get the lift to your spirits that you’re looking for. Depending on what time of day you plan to do most of your meditating, the side of the home you should choose will vary. For example, if you plan to meditate in the evening, you may want to pick a room that is west facing so you can get the sunset light.

Be Careful With Sounds and Smells

When you’re meditating, you want to be very careful what stimuli you have to your senses. Especially with sounds and smells, anything that’s irritating could make it hard to focus on relaxation. For this reason, Kathy Adams, a contributor to SF Gate, recommends blocking out any outside noise and bringing in soothing sounds to your space. Additionally, try not to have any scents that are too invigorating or distracting. For example, steer more toward smells like lavender and vanilla rather than citrus, fruity smells.

Play With Tone and Texture

For the sake of cleanliness and purity, many people find that having a white relaxation room is best for them. However, this can often become boring to the eye. If this happens to you, Better Homes and Gardens suggests playing with tones and textures of whites and off-whites to give the room a little more dimension and intrigue.
